Community Connections
The Community Connections project is a “front porch” concept that allows high school students the chance to step outside the four walls of their campus and gives them the visuals and first impressions of what a career in their field of interest could look like.
Sophomores with a particular career interest or in a certain study pathway are provided guided tours at a local business or industrial site and are able to interact with employees and executives. Through these interactions, students get a first-hand observation of what happens in the work environment and its responsibilities and requirements. They also learn what specific education, knowledge and training are needed in that particular field.
Employers are able to observe and engage with the students to find out what they know at this point in their educational journey with the goal to perhaps bring these students on with potential internship opportunities.

These collaborations add to the practical application of the students’ studies with a spotlight on their areas of interest. This showcases opportunities that exist in the students’ own backyard. This Community Connections program truly lives up to its name.
