Alex Cunningham, Chief Financial Officer for Fran Bearing Co., met with second-year machine tool students at the Mayfield/Graves County Area Technology Center (ATC) last week to share information about the specialized parts they manufacture and to help students connect how the skills they are learning now relate to what Fran Bearing looks for in new hires.
The visit is part of the Power in Partnership Program, an alliance between Graves County Economic Development (GCED) and the ATC that brings representatives from local companies into the school to share their expertise with students. These professionals also provide information about pay/benefits, advancement/progression, training needed after high school, and other crucial details that help students understand and prepare for careers while inspiring them to seek employment here in Graves County.
Cunningham discussed Fran Bearing's history and how it has grown to meet customers' needs and brought parts they produce for students to look at and handle.
"Programs like this give ATC students an opportunity to see that a career in manufacturing can start right here in our community," said Cunningham. "Manufacturing today requires skilled people who can work with their hands, solve problems, and continue learning as technology changes. We appreciate the opportunity to spend time with these students, share some of what we do at Fran Bearing Co., and hopefully give them a better understanding of the opportunities available to them after graduation."
