Mayfield Consumer Products (MCP) staff recently demonstrated the many ways they use Microsoft Office tools for a group of students from the Mayfield/Graves County Area Technology Center (ATC).
The students are members of the ATC’s Microsoft Office Specialist class and the visit was arranged as part of the “Power in Partnership” program, a collaboration between the ATC and Graves County Economic Development (GCED) that brings professionals in a range of fields to the classroom to share their expertise and offer career advice.
MCP employees guided students on a tour of the facility, explained the operation and highlighted the Microsoft applications that are part of the candle production process. They even sent every student home with a gift.
“Strong partnerships with our local schools and communities help shape the next generation of skilled, capable workers,” said MCP Plant Manager Darby Parkinson. “Hosting the ATC class was a great opportunity to share our needs and inspire future talent. Together, we're building a brighter future for our workforce, our community, and our business.”
ATC Principal Josh Heisner applauded MCP’s efforts to connect with the students. "Not only did Mayfield Consumer Products agree to host Microsoft Office students for a tour, but employees in multiple departments also greeted the students and spoke to them about how they utilize Microsoft Office products daily to help keep the company running efficiently,” he explained.
“That type of personalization really makes for a relevant and memorable experience for our students. We are grateful to MCP for giving these students an experience they'll never forget and to Graves County Economic Development for collaborating with us on Power in Partnership” Heisner added.
Founded in Mayfield in 1998 by former Mayfield resident Mary Propes, MCP is owned by the Propes family. The facility employs about 135 people and is a contract manufacturer for many top global brands, such as Bath & Body Works.
“We are really proud of this program,” said GCED President Jason Lemle. “Our companies are generous with their time and they are helping elevate what we have to offer skilled trade students. These experiences will ensure our students are ready to help their employers compete and succeed.”
The Microsoft Office Specialist class is part of ATC’s Office Technology program, designed to provide training in preparing business documents, managing records, handling communications, scheduling, financial transactions, operating a variety of business equipment, ordering, and supervising other personnel.
The ATC is located on the Mayfield High School campus and educates students from Mayfield Independent Schools, Graves County High School and Carlisle County High School.
