Mid-America Machine speaks to ATC students

Local students considering a career in the trades have unique opportunities given Graves County’s worldwide reputation as the centrifugal compressor capital of the world.

Students in the Machine Tool Technology Program at the Mayfield-Graves County Area Technology Center (ATC) recently learned more about those opportunities thanks to Joe Venice, Director of Sales and Marketing for Mid-America Machine, Inc., one of the world's largest manufacturers of aftermarket centrifugal air compressor parts, located in Hickory, KY.

“I was very excited to have the opportunity to speak to the energetic and engaging ATC students as part of the Power in Partnership Program,” said Venice. “It’s important for young people to know there are great opportunities in the skilled labor market here in Graves County. The future is promising in Graves County!”

“Joe spoke to our Machine Tool seniors about the importance of the machining and compressor industry, especially the work being done in Mayfield and Graves County,” said Chad Pickard, Instructor, ATC Machine/Tool Program. “He also offered practical advice on maximizing the lifespans of the machines that companies are paying big money to keep running.”

Mid-America Machine, Inc. has been producing quality products and dependable service since 1987. Their employees have decades of combined expertise and experience and are committed to customer satisfaction.

“Thanks to Joe for making time to speak to our kids and thank you to Graves County Economic Development for collaborating with us to make Power in Partnership happen,” added Pickard.

“Power in Partnership” is a partnership between the ATC and Graves County Economic Development (GCED) that brings professionals to the classroom to share their expertise and offer career advice.

“We’re excited to bring these programs to our skilled trade students,” said GCED President Jason Lemle. “They are developing the skills we can market to companies looking to locate nearby.”

The ATC’s machine tool technology program provides students with an understanding of machine capabilities, properties of material and workplace practices. Students are taught needed skills through classroom instruction, demonstration and hands-on experience.

The ATC is located on the Mayfield High School campus and educates students from Mayfield Independent Schools, Graves County High School and Carlisle County High School.
